The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has taken a decisive step to safeguard public health by destroying harmful products valued at ₦10 billion in Gombe. This significant operation, conducted on October 9th, involved the destruction of various categories of unsafe items, including food, drugs, and other regulated commodities.
These products were seized from six states in the North East region: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Taraba, Gombe, and Yobe.
NAFDAC's Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized the agency's unwavering commitment to ensuring that only quality and safe products are available in the Nigerian market. Represented by the Zonal Director, Kenneth Azukwe, during the event, she stated that the seized goods were intercepted through the diligent efforts of regulatory and enforcement officers. The agency's proactive measures have not only protected consumers but also earned international recognition and collaboration with leading health organizations.
This destruction exercise is part of NAFDAC's broader strategy to maintain stringent regulatory oversight and enhance safety standards for consumable products in Nigeria.
By removing these dangerous items from circulation, NAFDAC sends a clear message to those attempting to profit at the expense of public safety. The agency's actions reflect its dedication to "protecting and promoting public health" through rigorous standards and innovative practices.
NAFDAC plans to continue strengthening regulatory frameworks, enhancing surveillance, and ensuring that violators are brought to justice. The agency employs meticulous inspection, cutting-edge technology, laboratory analyses, and robust enforcement to ensure that only the highest quality products reach the market.
