Twelve individuals have lost their lives due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
The victims, comprising eleven foreigners and one Georgian national, were discovered in bedrooms situated above an Indian restaurant where they reportedly worked.
According to the Georgian Interior Ministry, the deaths are being treated as negligent manslaughter. Preliminary investigations suggest that an electric power generator, which was turned on following a power outage, may have been the source of the deadly gas.
"An oil-powered generator was turned on after the building lost electricity," police stated, indicating that this could have led to the carbon monoxide buildup.
The bodies showed no signs of violence, as confirmed by a police spokesperson, and autopsies have been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of death. The identities of the deceased have not yet been released.
