Fourteen year old Colt Gray appeared in court facing severe charges for the murder of two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School in Winder, near Atlanta.

The young shooter used a semiautomatic assault-style rifle to carry out the horrific act on Wednesday, September 5. Colt's father, Colin Gray, aged 53, was also arrested and charged with multiple counts, including involuntary manslaughter, second-degree murder, and cruelty to children. His charges stem from allowing his son access to the weapon used in the shooting.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey stated, "His charges are directly connected with the actions of his son and allowing him to possess a weapon." During the hearing at Barrow County Superior Court, Colt appeared handcuffed, with his hair covering his face, and spoke softly only to Judge Mingledorff. When asked to confirm his name and other details, he replied, "Yes sir." His attorney, Zain Harman, did not request bond for the teenager.

Judge Mingledorff clarified to Colt, "I wanted to make it clear to you that the penalty does not include death. It includes life without the possibility of parole or with the possibility of parole."

The FBI raided the Gray family home on Wednesday afternoon, seizing firearms and other evidence.

Public records reveal that Colt's mother, Marcee Gray, has a criminal history dating back to 2007, involving drug use, domestic violence, and property damage. She was recently jailed in April and is banned from contacting Colin without a third-party intermediary.
