Authorities in Arizona have arrested Ronald Lee Syvrud, a 66-year-old resident of Cochise County, for allegedly threatening to kill former President Donald Trump on social media.

The arrest took place on August 22, 2024, without incident, according to Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
Syvrud had been making death threats against Trump over the past fortnight, ahead of Trump's scheduled visit to the U.S.-Mexico border in Cochise County. Capas stated, "Officials had been looking for Syvrud, who they considered an 'investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate.'"
In addition to the recent threats, Syvrud has several outstanding warrants, including charges for DUI, failing to appear in court in Wisconsin, failing to register as a sex offender, and a hit-and-run in Arizona.
This incident comes just six weeks after Trump survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania, highlighting ongoing security challenges related to high-profile political figures.
