Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Aghamba, and his wife have been released by their captors after being kidnapped on Friday along the Edo-Kogi road while en route to Abuja.

The couple was traveling to attend the wedding of Adaora, the daughter of the state governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, which took place on Saturday. Tragically, Aghamba's aide, ABK Offiah, who was accompanying them, was shot dead during the abduction.

The release of the commissioner and his wife was confirmed by a reliable top government official on Saturday night.

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, stated, "The kidnapped Commissioner of Youth Development and his wife have been released today. To God be the glory. The state government will soon issue a statement on that."

Christian Aburime, the press secretary to Governor Soludo, also confirmed the release, attributing it to divine intervention. He said, "The commissioner and his wife have been released by the special grace of God. We were able to secure his release and no ransom was paid."

The incident has highlighted the rising cases of kidnappings in Anambra State, causing major concern among residents and stakeholders. The state government has yet to make an official statement regarding the development.
