Federal lawmaker representing Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State, Alex Ikwechegh is set to appear before the Kuje Magistrate Court on Wednesday.

This court appearance follows an incident on October 27th, where Ikwechegh allegedly assaulted an Abuja-based Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.

The incident gained widespread attention after a viral video showed Ikwechegh physically attacking Abuwatseya, leading to public outrage and condemnation of the lawmaker's actions.

The investigation into the assault is being conducted by the Inspector General of Police’s Special Investigation Unit. Prominent activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju, who represents the Bolt driver, confirmed the arraignment and encouraged media presence at the hearing.

In response to the backlash, Ikwechegh issued a public apology, expressing remorse for his actions and pledging full cooperation with the police investigations. He also revealed that he is undergoing counseling to address his behavior.
