The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest and detention of 97 members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), commonly known as the Shi'ite group, following a violent clash in Abuja on Sunday.

The confrontation resulted in the tragic deaths of two policemen and left three others seriously injured. Additionally, three police patrol vehicles were set ablaze during the incident.

The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that credible intelligence reports facilitated the apprehension of the suspects.

He emphasized that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, had directed a thorough investigation and vowed to bring all individuals involved in the attack to justice.

Adejobi reiterated the IGP's commitment to maintaining law and order across the country, resisting any form of anarchy and unrest.

In his statement, Adejobi condemned the unprovoked attack on police officers, describing it as "highly outrageous and unacceptable."

He expressed sympathy for the families of the fallen officers and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. The police force is determined to uncover the full extent of the attack and prevent future occurrences of such violence against its personnel.
