The Super Eagles, Nigeria's national football team, found themselves unexpectedly stranded at a Libyan airport.
This incident occurred as they were en route to Benghazi for the second leg of the AFCON 2025 Qualifier. Following their 1-0 victory against Libya in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the team's chartered flight was diverted by Libyan authorities to Al Abraq, a city over two hours away from their intended destination.
The diversion left the Super Eagles without transportation to Benghazi, forcing the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to scramble for alternative travel arrangements. As reported, "the Libyan authorities failed to provide transportation for the Super Eagles to get to their destination," leading to suspicions that this move was aimed at frustrating and exhausting the team before the crucial match.
In response to the unexpected diversion, the NFF had to devise alternative plans, resulting in the team traveling by road to Benghazi.
This incident not only disrupted the team's preparations but also raised concerns about the fairness and integrity of international sporting competitions.
