President of the African Development Bank (AfDB),

Akinwunmi Adesina, has announced a collaborative effort to mobilize $15 billion for the construction of the Lagos-Abidjan Highway.

This ambitious project, spearheaded by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), aims to connect five West African countries Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, and Côte d’voire via a 1,068-kilometer highway.

During a recent event in Abuja, Adesina highlighted the project's potential impact, stating, "The Lagos-Abidjan will handle 80% of the region’s trade."

He emphasized that upon completion, the highway is expected to transport over 500,000 passengers daily, significantly enhancing trade, tourism, and economic integration across the region.

The AfDB's commitment to infrastructure development is further demonstrated by its investments in other key projects, such as the Enugu to Cameroon corridor and the Lekki toll road.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to improve regional connectivity and drive economic growth.

Adesina also note the bank's role in supporting feasibility studies for the project, saying, "The African Development Bank has provided $12.6 million to support a feasibility study for the Lagos-Abidjan highway."
