The Anambra State Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has called off its indefinite strike following the safe release of Dr. Stephen Ezeh, who was abducted on August 15.
The strike, which began on August 22, was a direct response to the kidnapping and aimed to draw attention to the deteriorating security situation in the state.
In an official statement, Dr. Princeston Okam and Dr. Ifeanyi Obiaeli announced that medical professionals would resume their duties on August 25.
They emphasized the urgent need for improved security measures, urging Governor Chukwuma Soludo to declare a state of emergency on security.
"The current security challenges are not only affecting the healthcare sector but also have far-reaching impacts on the economy and overall well-being of our people," they stated.
The NMA also called for collective efforts from the public, security agencies, and professional bodies to support the governor in creating a peaceful and secure environment in Anambra.
"We appeal to everyone to join hands with the government to ensure the safety and health of all residents," the statement added.
