Shiloh Nouvel Jolie, the 18-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, on August 19, 2024 was officially granted her request to drop her father's surname.
This legal change comes nearly two months after she initially filed the petition on her 18th birthday in May.

The process, which required a background check and the publication of her name change in the Los Angeles Times, faced delays due to clerical issues but was ultimately approved by the court.
Shiloh's decision to change her name is part of a broader trend within the Jolie-Pitt family. Her siblings, including Maddox, Pax, Zahara, and twins Vivienne and Knox, have also distanced themselves from the "Pitt" moniker following their parents' split in 2016.
Notably, Zahara dropped the surname when introducing herself at Spelman College, and Vivienne's name appeared as "Vivienne Jolie" in the program for the Broadway musical "The Outsiders."
The name change is deeply personal for Shiloh, reflecting her desire to align more closely with her mother, Angelina Jolie, who herself dropped her father Jon Voight's last name in favor of her middle name.
According to sources, Shiloh's decision is connected to the strained relationship with her father, Brad Pitt, who has had "virtually no contact" with his adult children since the divorce.
The couple's ongoing legal battles, particularly over their winery Château Miraval, have further complicated family dynamics.
Brad Pitt, whose legal name is William Bradley Pitt, was reportedly aware and upset about Shiloh's decision.
A source close to him mentioned, "He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. The reminders that he’s lost his children are, of course, not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them."
