The All Progressives Congress (APC) has achieved a sweeping victory in the Ogun State Local Government elections, securing all 20 chairmanship seats and winning councillorship positions in all 236 wards across the state. The elections, held on Saturday, saw the APC dominate the political landscape, as announced by the Chairman of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), Babatunde Osibodu, at the Commission’s headquarters in Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Osibodu confirmed that a total of 613,156 votes were cast in the chairmanship election across the 20 local government areas. "The APC has demonstrated its stronghold in Ogun State by winning all the chairmanship and councillorship positions," he stated.

Despite the APC's landslide victory, the opposition parties have raised significant concerns about the conduct of the elections. The Labour Party (LP), one of the participating parties, has called for the cancellation of the entire exercise, citing systemic rigging and disenfranchisement of voters. Engr. Luqmon Jagun, the State Chairman of the LP, accused OGSIEC of failing to adhere to electoral guidelines, particularly highlighting issues such as the late arrival of electoral materials and non-accreditation of electorates.

"There was no election whatsoever in virtually all the polling units in Ogun State," Jagun declared during an emergency press conference in Abeokuta. "OGSIEC officials were nowhere to be seen in over ninety percent of the polling units, and there were no election materials at the polling units as of 1.30 pm."

The opposition's dissatisfaction with the election process has led to threats of legal action. Biodun Jagun, the chairman of the Labour Party in Ogun, emphasized, "If they fail to do this, we will reject any results that are announced and put the necessary machinery in motion to challenge this charade in court."

The elections witnessed participation from 19 political parties, including the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party. However, the APC's clean sweep has sparked debates about the fairness and transparency of the electoral process in Ogun State.
