Arik Air has announced the resumption of its flight operations after successfully settling a $2.5 million debt dispute with Atlas Petroleum International Ltd.

This resolution came after a period of major operational disruption for the airline, which saw three of its aircraft grounded by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) following a court order.

The grounding of Arik Air's fleet was initiated by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) on July 30, 2024, in compliance with a federal high court order. The court's directive was based on the airline's failure to settle the $2.5 million debt owed to Atlas Petroleum.

The enforcement department of the FCT High Court had attached Arik's aircraft and issued a notice for a public auction slated for July 26, 2024, if the debt remained unpaid.

Capt. Roy Ilegbodu, the Chief Executive Officer of Arik Air, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who played crucial roles in resolving the impasse. He assured customers that the airline was dedicated to ensuring a smooth and seamless return to service.

"During our brief pause, we have been dedicated to ensuring a smooth and seamless return to service, preparing to welcome you back on board with the comfort and reliability you expect from us," he stated.

The Federal Government lifted the suspension on Arik Air's operations, allowing the airline to resume flights. Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, confirmed the resolution of the dispute between Arik Air and Atlas Petroleum.

"The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN, and the DG of NCAA, Capt. Chris Najomo, have successfully resolved the impasse between Arik Air and Atlas Petroleum," he said.
