Vem Miller, a 49-year-old registered Republican and self-proclaimed Trump supporter, was arrested near a Donald Trump rally in California.
The arrest occurred after police discovered a shotgun and a loaded handgun in his vehicle at a checkpoint near the Coachella Valley rally.
Local police chief Chad Bianco alleged that Miller intended to assassinate the former president, a claim that Miller vehemently denied, calling it "complete bulls--t."
Miller, who identifies as an artist and a member of a far-right anti-government group, insisted that he carried the firearms solely for personal protection. He explained that he had been invited to the rally by the head of the Clark County GOP Party and was wearing Trump-themed attire when stopped by authorities.
Despite the serious nature of the allegations, Miller was released on a $5,000 bail.
