Ruth Ogunleye, a former soldier in the Nigerian Army, has detailed her traumatic experiences involving Colonel I.B. Abdulkareem. Ogunleye, who was discharged from the military after accusing the colonel of sexual harassment, revealed that she was drugged and raped over several days.

The incidents reportedly began in 2022 when Ogunleye was serving at the Nigerian Army Cantonment Medical Centre in Ojo, Lagos. She recounted how Colonel Abdulkareem, then her commanding officer, initially attempted to engage her in a sexual relationship, offering her money and promises of career advancement, which she refused.

Following her refusal, Ogunleye described a pattern of vindictive behavior from the colonel, including being subjected to extra duties and unjust punishments. She alleged that Abdulkareem would inject her with Largactil, a sedative typically used for mentally ill patients, often under duress with threats of violence or physical restraint by other soldiers.

After being drugged, she would be unconscious for days, during which time she was sexually assaulted. On multiple occasions, she was placed in a body bag and left at a psychiatric hospital.

Despite these serious allegations, the Nigerian Army cleared Colonel Abdulkareem of any wrongdoing. The army's decision was reportedly based on a medical evaluation that suggested Ogunleye had a condition making her medically vulnerable, leading to her discharge on medical grounds rather than pursuing disciplinary action against her.

This decision has sparked controversy and raised questions about the handling of such cases within the military.

Ogunleye's story has gained attention, particularly after she shared her ordeal on social media platforms like TikTok.
