The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the Nigerian Army handed over Adeleye Ayomide, a 23-year-old suspect accused of killing Idowu Christiana, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).

The handover took place at approximately 1400hrs, as stated by the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Christiana was abducted on August 19, 2024, while traveling between Itaoluwo and Yaba on her way to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for her industrial training.

Her abductor used her WhatsApp account to contact her parents, sending images of her in captivity and demanding a ransom of N1.5 million. Despite negotiations, which saw the ransom reduced to N350,000, the abductors did not release her.

The tragic turn of events unfolded when Ayomide reportedly confessed to his father and soldiers on August 3, 2024, that he had killed Christiana and buried her in his parents' home in Ikorodu, Lagos State. This confession led to his arrest by the Nigerian Army, who subsequently handed him over to the Lagos State Police Command.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with the hashtag #JusticeForChristiana trending on X, garnering over 90,000 posts from concerned Nigerians, including celebrities like Ayra Starr and Lateef Adedimeji, demanding justice for the slain student.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Christiana's death is ongoing, as confirmed by the Lagos State Police Command.
