Former militant leader Asari Dokubo has announced his intention to form an alliance with the North ahead of the 2027 presidential election, expressing feelings of betrayal by President Bola Tinubu.

In a video that has gone viral, Asari Dokubo recounted his efforts and financial contributions towards Tinubu's successful campaign in the 2023 presidential election, only to feel let down by the president's actions since taking office. He stated, "President Tinubu betrayed me after I spent all my money and emptied my bank account campaigning for him."

Asari Dokubo, who hails from the Ijaw ethnic group in Nigeria's Niger Delta region, emphasized his disillusionment with the Yoruba people, whom he accused of betrayal.

He declared, "We can’t work with Yoruba people; they are a betrayal to us." This sentiment marks a pivotal shift in his political stance, as he now seeks to rekindle alliances with the Northern region, reminiscent of past political collaborations.

This development comes amid reports of potential alliances among opposition political parties in Nigeria. Political scientist Pat Utomi has been in discussions with key figures such as Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the NNPP about forming a new political party aimed at challenging President Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.
