Atiku Slams Tinubu's Economic Policies, Denies Jealousy Claims in Response to Spokesman's Accusations

The 2023 presidential candidate for Nigeria's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu's economic policies, claiming they are causing significant hardship for Nigerians.

Atiku's remarks come in response to accusations from Tinubu's spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who suggested that Atiku was acting out of jealousy after his loss in the 2023 election.

Atiku, through his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, dismissed these claims, stating, "Atiku, jealous of Tinubu inflicting pain on Nigerians? Hell no, wickedness is an exclusive preserve of T-Pain."

He highlighted several issues with Tinubu's administration, including the unfulfilled promise to lift import duties on essential goods, which was announced over four months ago but has yet to be implemented.

Atiku pointed out that this delay has contributed to soaring food inflation, now exceeding 40%, the highest in decades.

Furthermore, Atiku criticized the abrupt removal of the petrol subsidy without adequate planning, which led to increased transportation costs and further economic strain.

He also noted the failure of the compressed natural gas (CNG) initiative due to insufficient infrastructure, exacerbating the situation.

Atiku argued that Tinubu's economic projections, such as the unrealistic exchange rate forecasts, demonstrate a lack of preparedness and consistency in policy-making.

He urged the Central Bank of Nigeria to release its financial statements to provide transparency regarding the country's foreign exchange reserves.
