Former Real Madrid star Clarence Seedorf in a recent development surrounding the 2024 Ballon d'Or awards has suggested that an "unresolved" problem between UEFA and Real Madrid may have contributed to Vinicius Junior's failure to secure the prestigious accolade.
Despite being a frontrunner, Vinicius was beaten by Manchester City midfielder Rodri, who claimed the top prize. This decision led to Real Madrid boycotting the ceremony held on October 28, 2024, in Paris, as they felt disrespected by the outcome.

Seedorf, who attended the event with his wife Sophia Makramati, expressed his belief that Vinicius deserved the award over Rodri. He stated, "I already voted almost a year ago and I think Vinicius deserved this award."
The Dutch legend hinted at underlying tensions between Real Madrid and UEFA, which he believes should not have influenced the award's outcome. "It seems that there is something between Real Madrid and UEFA that seems to be unresolved," Seedorf remarked.
The controversy was further fueled by reactions from Vinicius's teammates, who took to social media to express their support. Eduardo Camavinga labeled the decision as "FOOTBALL POLITICS," while Aurelien Tchouameni and Eder Militao praised Vinicius's achievements, asserting that no award could diminish his status as the best player.
Real Madrid's absence from the ceremony signified their dissatisfaction, with sources indicating that the club felt "disrespected" by the snub of both Vinicius and Dani Carvajal. The club's stance was clear: they would not attend an event where they felt undervalued. This sentiment was echoed by Managing Madrid, which reported that the club believed if Vinicius was not recognized, then logically, the award should have gone to Carvajal, who had won more titles.
