The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made a fervent appeal to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to declare a state of emergency in the state due to escalating insecurity.

This call comes amid allegations that Governor Dauda Lawal is undermining security efforts and endangering citizens' lives through media campaigns and propaganda against the Minister of State for Defense, Bello Matawalle.

In a statement issued by the APC's Publicity Secretary, Mallam Yusuf Idris Gusau, the party accused Governor Lawal of "toying with the lives of the people" and attempting to sabotage ongoing military operations aimed at combating banditry.

The statement highlighted that the current military onslaught against terrorists in Zamfara, coordinated by Minister Matawalle under President Tinubu's directives, is yielding "unprecedented results."

The APC claims that some bandit leaders who previously felt invincible have been subdued, and the federal government's fight against banditry is making significant progress. However, the party expressed dismay over Governor Lawal's alleged attempts to distract from these efforts, stating, "The governor has never in any way supported military operations in the state in terms of logistics; rather, he has been too confrontational."

The APC further alleged that Governor Lawal is politicizing the security situation to benefit his 2027 campaign plans, similar to his strategy during the 2023 general elections.

They accused him of using media outlets to falsely portray himself as the coordinator of the anti-banditry operations, thereby undermining Minister Matawalle's efforts.

The statement also mentioned that Governor Lawal has been accused of approving over 1.3 billion Naira to sponsor terrorism and mismanaging federal palliative funds meant for the state's citizens.

Additionally, the APC pointed out that a notorious bandit leader, Turji, claimed that some bandits were being harbored in the Government House in Gusau, an allegation that the state government has not denied. Given these circumstances, the APC insists that declaring a state of emergency is necessary to prevent further politicization of military actions and ensure effective security measures.

They argue that this step would allow security operatives to conduct their operations without interference from the state government.
