Barcelona Scammed in Lewandowski 2022 Transfer, Fraudster Posed as Lawyer and Received €1 Million

La Liga club giant, Barcelona, in a surprising turn of events fell victim to a sophisticated scam during the high-profile transfer of Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.

The incident, which occurred in 2022, involved a fraudster who successfully posed as a lawyer associated with Lewandowski's agent, Pini Zahavi. This conman, using the false identity of "Michael Hermanus Gerardus Demon," managed to deceive Barcelona into transferring €1 million, equivalent to £830,000, under the pretense of facilitating the player's move.

The scam was executed with remarkable persistence and cunning, ultimately convincing the club to part with the substantial sum. Despite the setback, Barcelona eventually managed to recoup the lost funds.
