Bayer Leverkusen's manager, Xabi Alonso, has issued a compelling challenge to his star striker, Victor Boniface. Following Boniface's first-ever goal in the competition, which secured a 1-0 victory over AC Milan, Alonso praised the player's performance but emphasized the need for further development.
Alonso's primary message to Boniface was to "be aggressive like Drogba." He elaborated on this by highlighting Didier Drogba's ability to create problems for defenders through his strength and aggressive playstyle.
Alonso believes that Boniface possesses many qualities that could make him as formidable as Drogba. He stated, "He (Boniface) has many qualities that can make him as strong as Drogba. Drogba was strong and created problems for defenders."
Despite Boniface's impressive displays since joining Die Werkself last summer, Alonso sees room for improvement, particularly in terms of aggression and decision-making around the penalty area.
He noted, "Sometimes he needs to be more aggressive to attack the box, like today that he scored a goal that was disallowed." Alonso also pointed out the importance of Boniface creating his own unique qualities and being effective in short spaces around the box.
