Nigerian rapper and activist Folarin Falana, professionally known as Falz, has addressed the swirling controversy involving Bobrisky's incarceration.
An audio recording leaked by social critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, claimed that Falz and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) assisted in getting money laundering charges against Bobrisky dropped.
Reacting to the allegations, Falz, through his legal team at Falana & Falana’s Chambers, categorically denied initiating any conversation with Bobrisky while he was in prison.
According to Falz, "Bobrisky only sought assistance to pay for VIP section in prison." He clarified that Bobrisky had contacted him solely to request financial support amounting to N3 million to secure a VIP section in the Correctional Centre.
The situation has sparked outrage and calls for investigations into potential bribery and corruption within Nigerian prisons.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had jailed Bobrisky for three months after he pleaded guilty to naira mutilation. He was released on August 5, 2024.
Falz also criticized VeryDarkMan for publishing unverified allegations without reaching out for his side of the story. In a now-viral letter, Falz accused VeryDarkMan of making "a careless statement containing multiple allegations" against him.
