Nigerian social media personality and transgender celebrity, Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky, has filed a lawsuit against fellow Nigerian activist and social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, widely recognized as VeryDarkMan. The lawsuit, which seeks damages amounting to N1 billion, was filed in response to alleged defamatory statements made by VeryDarkMan on his popular TikTok platform.
Bobrisky, who gained fame for documenting her transition on social media and is known for her significant presence on Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram, claims that the statements made by VeryDarkMan have caused substantial harm to her reputation and business interests. The legal action comes shortly after Bobrisky's release from Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos, where she served a six-month sentence for defacing naira banknotes at a social event earlier this year.
VeryDarkMan, born on April 8, 1994, in Edo State, Nigeria, has built a considerable following as an advocate for public safety and social justice. His outspoken nature and critical commentary on various societal issues have earned him both admiration and controversy. Despite his popularity, the allegations brought forth by Bobrisky could have significant implications for his career and public image.
Bobrisky's legal team argues that the defamatory remarks made by VeryDarkMan were not only false but also malicious, intended to tarnish her image and undermine her influence.
