A 2,492-carat diamond has been unearthed at a mine in Botswana.

This extraordinary find is the largest diamond discovered in over a century and ranks as the second-largest ever found, trailing only the legendary Cullinan Diamond, which was unearthed in South Africa in 1905.

The monumental gem was discovered by Lucara Diamond Corp, a company renowned for its special contributions to the diamond mining industry.

Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi was among the first to present the diamond to the public, showing the national pride and economic potential this discovery brings to the country.

"This is a momentous occasion for Botswana and the global diamond industry," President Masisi stated during the unveiling.

"The discovery of such a large diamond not only highlights our country's rich natural resources but also promises substantial economic benefits."

The value and method of sale for this colossal diamond have yet to be determined. However, the same mine set a record in 2016 when it sold a smaller diamond for an impressive $63 million.

This latest find is expected to generate interest and anticipation regarding its valuation and future auction.

Botswana's prominence in the diamond mining industry is well-established, and this discovery further cements its status as a leading player.

The economic implications of such a find are vast, potentially boosting the nation's economy and attracting international investment.
