Chelsea triumphed over Brighton with a 4-2 victory at Stamford Bridge, thanks to an extraordinary performance by Cole Palmer. The 22-year-old forward became the first player in the 32-year history of the Premier League to score four goals before half-time.

Palmer's remarkable feat unfolded within a mere 20-minute span, as he netted goals in the 21st, 28th, 31st and 41st minutes. His scoring spree included a stunning long-range free kick and a penalty, showcasing his versatility and precision. This dazzling display not only secured Chelsea's win but also propelled them to third place in the league standings.

The match began with Brighton's Georginio Rutter capitalizing on a mistake by former Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sánchez to put the visitors ahead in the seventh minute.

However, Palmer quickly turned the tide with his rapid-fire hat-trick, completed in just 10 minutes. Despite a second error from Sánchez that allowed Carlos Baleba to pull one back for Brighton, Palmer restored Chelsea's lead with another brilliant finish before the break.

Chelsea's manager, Enzo Maresca, praised Palmer's performance, noting that his team is "quickly building momentum" under his leadership. The victory marked Chelsea's first home league win of the season and ended Brighton's unbeaten start.

Palmer's achievement places him alongside Chelsea legends Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who have all scored at least three goals in a game three times for the club. This match was only Palmer's 39th league appearance for Chelsea since joining from Manchester City in the offseason of 2023.

Reflecting on his record-setting performance, Palmer said, "It's an incredible feeling to make history with this club. I couldn't have done it without my teammates' support."

As Chelsea fans celebrated their team's ascent in the league, Palmer's historic four-goal haul will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the standout moments of the 2024 Premier League season.
