Dangote Refinery has successfully exported its first consignment of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, to Cameroon. This notable achievement shows the refinery's role in enhancing economic ties between Nigeria and its Central African neighbour.
The petroleum product was received by Neptune Oil, a leading energy company in Cameroon, marking a strategic collaboration aimed at meeting the region’s growing energy demands. In a joint statement released on Wednesday, both organizations emphasized their commitment to strengthening economic relations and fostering growth across the region.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of the Dangote Group, hailed the export as a pivotal step towards Africa’s energy self-sufficiency. "This first export of PMS to Cameroon is a tangible demonstration of our vision for a united and energy-independent Africa," he stated. "With this development, we are laying the foundation for a future where African resources are refined and exchanged within the continent for the benefit of our people."
Antoine Ndzengue, Director and Owner of Neptune Oil, echoed these sentiments, describing the partnership as transformative for Cameroon. "By becoming the first importer of petroleum products from this world-class refinery, we are bolstering our country’s energy security and supporting local economic development," Ndzengue remarked. He further noted that the initial supply was executed without international intermediaries, reflecting a commitment to serving markets independently and efficiently.
Located in Lagos, Nigeria, Dangote Refinery is recognized as the largest single-train refinery in the world, with a processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. It stands as a flagship project of the Dangote Group, dedicated to transforming Africa’s energy landscape.
Looking ahead, both Dangote Refinery and Neptune Oil are exploring new initiatives to establish a reliable supply chain that will help stabilize fuel prices and create new economic opportunities across the region.
