Barcelona has officially announced the signing of versatile forward Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig, marking the first major acquisition under new manager Hansi Flick.

The 26-year-old Spanish international, who was a standout performer in Spain's victorious Euro 2024 campaign, returns to his boyhood club in a deal reportedly worth an initial €55 million, with potential add-ons amounting to €7 million.

Olmo's journey back to Camp Nou is a homecoming of sorts. He was part of Barcelona's famed La Masia academy from 2007 to 2014 before moving to Dinamo Zagreb in search of more first-team opportunities.

During his time in Croatia, he made 124 appearances and scored 34 goals, establishing himself as one of Europe's promising talents. His subsequent move to RB Leipzig in 2020 saw him win two DFB-Pokals and a DFL-Supercup, where he notably scored a hat-trick in the final against Bayern Munich.
"Returning to Barcelona feels like coming home," Olmo shared on Instagram. "A young club, a young player ... We grew up, won our first trophies, and made history together. Thank you RB Leipzig, you'll forever be in my heart."

Barcelona's sporting director Deco played a crucial role in securing Olmo's return, flying out to Leipzig earlier this week to finalize negotiations. The transfer was confirmed on Thursday, with Olmo set to be presented to the media on Friday.
Olmo's versatility and experience are expected to bolster Barcelona's attacking options as they navigate the financial constraints imposed by LaLiga's spending cap. Despite this significant signing, sources indicate that Barcelona may still pursue Athletic Club's Nico Williams before the transfer window closes.
Dani Olmo's return to Barcelona is not just a transfer; it's a reunion with his roots and a testament to his growth as a player.
