Dele Momodu, a prominent figure in Nigeria's People's Democratic Party (PDP) and a seasoned journalist, expressed his deep skepticism about the economic plans of President Bola Tinubu's administration.
Momodu voiced concerns over the government's ability to deliver on its promises to improve the lives of Nigerians, who are currently facing significant economic challenges.
Momodu remarked, "I've lived long enough in this country called Nigeria. I've listened to all the sweet talks by politicians. I have yet to see the sign of that light at the end of the tunnel." His comments reflect a broader sentiment of disillusionment with political rhetoric that often fails to translate into tangible improvements for the populace.
Despite reassurances from Atiku Bagudu, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, who affirmed the government's commitment to reshaping the national economic landscape, Momodu remains unconvinced.
He described these assurances as "familiar rhetoric" frequently heard from politicians, emphasizing the need for actual results rather than promises.
Momodu further cautioned that the effectiveness of Tinubu's administration would ultimately be judged by its outcomes. "If they do it well, Nigerians will applaud them, but if they don't, those coming after them will also tell them the same thing they're talking about Buhari now," he stated, highlighting the importance of accountability and effective governance.
As he approaches 63 years of age, Momodu conveyed his disappointment with the political promises he's heard repeatedly, expressing doubts about the competence of those advising President Tinubu. Despite his skepticism, he expressed hope for national progress, stating, "I wish them the best of luck because I want Nigeria to be good.
It's not in my interest for Nigeria to collapse."
