Diddy Ordered to Pay $100 Million to Inmate for Alleged Drugging and Sexual Assault

Hip hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs has been ordered to pay $100 million to Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith, a Michigan inmate, for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting him.

The judgment was issued on September 9, 2024, by Lenawee County Circuit Court Judge Anna Marie Anzalone.

The case dates back to a 1997 party in Detroit, where Cardello-Smith claims he was drugged and sexually assaulted by Combs. At the time, Cardello-Smith worked in the restaurant and hospitality industry. He is currently serving an unrelated prison sentence at the Earnest C. Brooks Correctional Facility in Muskegon Heights.

Cardello-Smith, who has a long history with Combs, provided evidence including prison facility visitation records showing Combs's name.

He also revealed that Combs offered him $2.3 million to drop the lawsuit, which he refused. "You know how we get down," Combs allegedly told Cardello-Smith during a conversation about the lawsuit, to which Cardello-Smith responded, "I disagree with how you get down."

The default judgment was awarded after Combs failed to appear for the virtual hearing on September 9, leading to the court ruling in favor of Cardello-Smith.

This judgment could be one of the largest ever awarded to a non-attorney and currently incarcerated individual.

Combs has been the target of multiple lawsuits and criminal investigations in 2024, adding to his legal troubles.

The case has garnered attention on social media, with some users expressing doubt about Cardello-Smith’s claims while others recall past allegations against Combs, including widely circulated footage of him assaulting his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura.

A social media user, @jenniferwyllie4033, commented, "Just remember… they made Cassie look crazy until she produced receipts."

Combs had issued a public apology after the footage was revealed earlier this year.
