Following the arrest and indictment of Sean "Diddy" Combs on federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges, his music streams have seen a notable increase.
According to industry data and analytics company Luminate, Diddy's music catalog experienced an average 18.3% rise in on-demand streams during the week of his arrest compared to the previous week. This surge in streaming numbers is not uncommon in the music industry, especially when artists face significant controversy.

Combs was arrested on September 17, 2024, and held without bail after being charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation to engage in prostitution.
The indictment, which details allegations dating back to 2008, accuses him of abusing, threatening, and coercing women for years "to fulfill his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his conduct." Despite pleading not guilty to the charges in federal court in New York City, Combs remains in federal custody at the Brooklyn detention center, notorious for its harsh conditions.
The increase in Diddy's music streams mirrors similar trends seen with other controversial figures in the music industry. For instance, R. Kelly's streaming numbers nearly doubled following the release of a documentary accusing him of sexual misconduct. In Diddy's case, the #MuteDiddy campaign that started online in 2023 in response to multiple allegations against him has not hindered the growth of his music catalog.
In addition to the legal battles, searches of Combs' residences in Miami, Florida, and Los Angeles, California, in March 2024 uncovered various "Freak Off" supplies, including narcotics and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant. These findings further complicate the mogul's public image, yet his music continues to attract listeners.
