Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has openly addressed the ongoing comparisons between her and South African artist Tyla.
During an interview with BBC Radio 1 Xtra, Ayra Starr expressed that she is unbothered by these comparisons and emphasized the importance of unity in the music industry.

She described Tyla as her "homegirl" and her "G," stating, "Tyla is my homegirl, that's my G. That doesn't bother me at all. I don't care about all of that. Less noise, more music."
The comparisons between the two artists gained traction after both were nominated for the Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys, where Tyla emerged victorious.
Despite this, Ayra Starr remains focused on supporting each other, highlighting the potential for African music to dominate globally. She remarked, "Let’s support each other, like, why not, like afrobeats and African music is about to take over the world and we have to come together to be able to do that. There’s no need for comparisons."
