Doguwa Refutes Murder Allegations, Accuses Political Foes

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum (Upstream), Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa vehemently denied allegations of murder, culpable homicide, or any politically motivated violence.

In a detailed response to accusations made by his colleague, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, Doguwa emphasized that he had never stood trial for such charges.

Doguwa addressed the unrest during the 2023 general election, acknowledging its occurrence but firmly denying any involvement as an instigator.

He stated, "The police investigators arrested some of the hoodlums who have made personal confessions—they were mostly NNPP members," highlighting that the perpetrators were prosecuted and sentenced by appropriate courts in Kano.

Further reinforcing his innocence, Doguwa pointed out that the Federal High Court in Abuja had upheld his fundamental human rights, ordering the Kano State government to pay him ₦25 million in damages for harassment.

He remarked, "I went through virtually all criminal investigations and judicial considerations at various levels and came out clean and victoriously innocent," noting that the Attorney General of Kano State had acquitted him based on police clearance.

Doguwa dismissed Jibrin's threats to reveal a "bombshell" that could lead to his expulsion from the All Progressives Congress (APC), labeling them as "hallucinations, concoctions, and black lies." He attributed their ongoing conflict to Jibrin's defense of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who had previously insulted the APC leadership.

In a related development, the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Musa Abdullahi-Lawan, on May 25, 2023, absolved Doguwa of the alleged murder case.

Abdullahi-Lawan stated, "We cannot find sufficient evidence to link Doguwa with the said offences, considering that we are faced with so much inculpatory and exculpatory evidence for and against him." He noted that the statements implicating Doguwa were full of contradictions and lacked medical evidence to prove the death of the victims.

Abdullahi-Lawan reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring justice, equity, and fairness irrespective of who it favors. He added that eight to twelve other suspects would be charged to court with mischief by fire under section 336 of the Penal Code as amended.
