Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu of Abia North, Nigeria, disclosed that he has ceased using his private jet due to the nation's economic difficulties and the soaring costs of aviation fuel.

The former governor of Abia State explained in a video circulating on social media that the financial strain of affording Jet A1 fuel has compelled him to switch to commercial flights.

"Buying fuel and all of the rest… I don’t need to explain to you.

For now, I have grounded the private jet to do some other businesses for oil companies. I want to maintain that," Kalu stated.

The senator further elaborated that he has contracted out his private jet to an oil company since August this year, highlighting the broader impact of economic hardship on even high-ranking officials.

This decision underscores the severe financial constraints affecting various sectors in Nigeria.

"There is a commercial plane that was scheduled and I will use them to the glory of God," he added.

Senator Kalu's disclosure is part of a series of public comments addressing critical national issues such as corruption, minimum wage, and the Senate Presidency. His situation offers a poignant illustration of the widespread effects of Nigeria's economic conditions, providing insight into the financial challenges faced by political figures in the country.
