The All Progressives Congress (APC) Transition Committee has accused Obaseki's government of setting a "trap" for the incoming administration of Monday Okpebholo.
According to Prince Kassim Afegbua, a member of the APC Transition Committee, this move is seen as an attempt to burden the new government with additional responsibilities.
Afegbua criticized the timing of the recruitment, suggesting it was a strategic political maneuver rather than a genuine effort to improve the state's educational system.
He stated, "All through his active years as Chief Executive of Edo State, Governor Obaseki could not recruit any teacher to reinvigorate the educational interest of the state."
He further alleged that the recruitment was part of a broader pattern of mismanagement, claiming that the EdoBest project, associated with the recruitment, was used for personal gain rather than public benefit.
The situation draws parallels to former Governor Adams Oshiomhole's end-of-term recruitment of 2,500 teachers, which Obaseki halted upon taking office in 2016.
Afegbua noted, "Senator Okpebholo will not recruit teachers with a partisan mind but with a determination to make Edo State better for our children."
