The Federal High Court in Abuja has mandated that Godwins Omobayo, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, appear in person on Tuesday, November 26.
This order comes amid allegations of contempt for failing to comply with a previous court ruling.
The directive is intended to ensure that Omobayo receives a fair hearing and the opportunity to defend himself, as stipulated by Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The contempt charge was initiated by Philip Shaibu, who was reinstated as the Deputy Governor after a court nullified his impeachment by the Edo House of Assembly.
Shaibu alleges that Omobayo refused to vacate the deputy governorship position despite the court's decision.
Justice James Omotosho, presiding over the case, emphasized the importance of adhering to due process, stating, "In the interest of justice, and to give the alleged contemnor the opportunity to defend himself and fair hearing, the alleged contemnor is hereby ordered to be in court in person on Tuesday, 26th November."
