Senate President Godswill Akpabio openly criticized the outgoing Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, for allegedly turning against his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole.
This political drama unfolded, as Akpabio remarked, “The man you brought in as governor (Obaseki) has turned against you and against democracy.”
This statement highlights the tension between Obaseki and Oshiomhole, who was instrumental in Obaseki's rise to governorship in 2016.
Despite Oshiomhole's support, which helped Obaseki defeat Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the Peoples Democratic Party, their relationship soured two years into Obaseki's tenure. Dissatisfaction among party leaders over exclusion from Obaseki's administration led to a rift, with Obaseki vowing not to succumb to any godfather's influence.
