Edo Guber: "I'm Vindicated, I Hope Obaseki Learns His Lesson" - Philip Shaibu Speaks on Election

Reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, has expressed a sense of vindication following the recent gubernatorial election results.

Speaking on Arise TV, Shaibu asserted that the outcome justified his long-standing claims about Governor Goodwin Obaseki's lack of popularity and independent electoral success. Shaibu, who had a public fallout with Obaseki over his own gubernatorial ambitions, supported the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Okpebholo the winner, with 291,667 votes, defeating Obaseki’s anointed candidate, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes.

Reflecting on the election, Shaibu stated, "I thank God for it. I am water and I don’t have an enemy. Those who unfortunately decided that I am their enemy, I have always prayed for them to live long and see how God’s miracles continue to work in my life." He emphasized his role as a team player and highlighted his electoral success, noting, "I have also been able to cancel that negative impression that Shaibu does not win his ward. It is a lie because I have never lost my ward or unit. The highest votes came from my unit."

In contrast, Shaibu pointed out Obaseki's failure to secure his local government, stating, "Even the governor could not win his Local Government. I won, I won my unit, which is number one now, and I won my ward and LG which is also number one. I took first from unit to LG." Shaibu urged Obaseki to apologize to the people of Edo State, particularly those he dismissed from his government. "It is very unfortunate and I hope he learns his lessons. What is left for him now is to go back and apologize to the people of Edo State and there are a lot of them that he needs to apologize to," he added.
