Elon Musk has backed down from his contentious standoff with Brazilian lawmakers, agreeing to restore the social media platform X after complying with a series of legal demands. This development follows Brazil's Supreme Court's decision to block users of the platform until Musk adhered to their regulations.

In April, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered the removal of over 100 social media accounts that questioned the results of Brazil's 2022 presidential election and the legitimacy of former far-right president Jair Bolsonaro's defeat. Musk, who champions free speech, objected to this directive, leading Moraes to mandate Brazil’s mobile and internet providers to block access to X.

In retaliation, Musk had closed down X’s offices in Brazil, leaving the platform without the required legal representation. However, he has now appointed Rachel de Oliveira Conceicao as the new legal representative in the country. Despite this move, the Supreme Court remains dissatisfied with the documentation regarding her appointment and has given X a five-day deadline to rectify the paperwork.
