Former Chelsea midfielder, Conor Gallagher, has shed light on the reasons behind his departure from Stamford Bridge, a move that saw him join Atletico Madrid this summer.
The 24-year-old England international revealed that Chelsea's inability to guarantee him a long-term future was a significant factor in his decision to leave.
Speaking candidly, Gallagher said, "Chelsea make their own decisions and they have brought in some top players on long contracts. That wasn’t the situation with me but what happened is good for everyone."
He emphasized that the opportunity to join Atletico Madrid excited him as soon as he learned of their interest, stating, "I opened up my options and looked at the bigger picture."
Addressing rumors that new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca did not believe Gallagher's technical skills suited his possession-heavy tactics, the midfielder firmly dismissed these claims. "I don’t think that is true personally. I think last season I had a good season with Chelsea as you could see by Mauricio Pochettino playing me every game and showing his trust in me," Gallagher asserted.
Currently on international duty with the England squad ahead of their Nations League clash with Ireland, Gallagher's move to Atletico Madrid marks a new chapter in his career, one filled with promise and new opportunities.
