EPL: Howard Webb Set for Grilling Over Poor Refereeing After Man City, Arsenal Clash

Esther

Several Premier League clubs are set to grill the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) chief, Howard Webb, over poor refereeing this new season.

Referees in England’s topflight have come under fierce criticism after only five rounds of matches. The discontent has been particularly pronounced following a recent clash between Arsenal and Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Both clubs were left fuming over Michael Oliver's officiating. Arsenal was unhappy with Oliver’s decision to show a second yellow card to Leandro Trossard in the first half for kicking the ball, while Manchester City criticized the official for his role in the buildup to Riccardo Calafiori’s equalizer.

The Times reported that these controversial decisions have prompted several clubs to plan a meeting with Webb to vent their frustrations. This situation reflects broader concerns about refereeing standards in the EPL, with multiple clubs voicing their dissatisfaction.

The ongoing critique highlights the increasing scrutiny on match officials and calls for improved consistency in officiating.
