EPL: Slot Maintains Perfect Liverpool Start with Commanding 2-0 Win Over Brentford

Arne Slot extended his perfect start as Liverpool manager with a 2-0 win against Brentford on his Anfield debut.

The match, held on August 25, 2024, saw goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah, ensuring the Reds' second consecutive victory under their new boss.

Slot, who was serenaded by Liverpool fans before kick-off, took charge of his first Premier League home game after opening his reign with a 2-0 win at Ipswich last weekend.

The early signs are promising for the 45-year-old Dutchman, who was hired from Feyenoord to replace Jurgen Klopp after the German stepped down at the end of last term following nine successful years at Anfield.

In front of an Anfield league record crowd of 60,107, Liverpool took the lead in the 13th minute with a blistering break that climaxed with Diaz taking Diogo Jota’s pass and firing high into the net.

Salah put the result beyond doubt in the 70th minute, cleverly adjusting his body position to dink his shot into the far corner from 12 yards after Dominik Szoboszlai tenaciously won possession in midfield.

The game looked a lot like Week 1 for Liverpool, when the Reds managed a 2-0 victory at newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

Brentford rarely threatened Liverpool, and Alisson Becker made a terrific save on the Bees’ best chance. Brentford again did not deploy Ivan Toney as it seeks resolution on his future away from the club.

Liverpool move to 2-0-0 and take another step up when they visit Manchester United at Old Trafford in Week 3. Brentford slip to 1-0-1. The Reds kept back-to-back Premier League clean sheets just once last season, a feat they have already matched under Slot's leadership.
