Equatorial Guinea's government has been rocked by a scandal involving the country's financial crime chief, Baltasar Ebang Engonga.
The controversy erupted following the leak of over 300 sex tapes allegedly featuring Engonga in intimate encounters with various women, including wives of prominent officials.
These tapes were discovered during a corruption investigation and have since gone viral, prompting swift action from the government.
According to a statement issued by the Equatorial Guinea Press and Information Office, the government has suspended officials implicated in the scandal.
Vice-President Teodoro Mangue emphasized that "any official found engaging in sex acts at work would be sanctioned," citing this behavior as a "flagrant violation of the code of conduct."
The leaked videos, reportedly recorded in locations such as Engonga's office and public spaces, have severely tarnished the country's image.
The government's response includes not only suspensions but also measures to prevent future misconduct. These include reinforcing security in judicial offices and installing surveillance cameras.
The Vice President has urgently summoned key figures, including the President of the Supreme Court of Justice and the Attorney General, to devise strategies to curb such behavior and propose preventive measures.
Engonga, who is married with six children, was initially detained on corruption charges. However, the investigation revealed these recordings on his personal devices, leading to his arrest.
The tapes depict him with multiple women, some of whom are married to high-ranking officials, such as the wife of the Presidential security head and his own brother's spouse.
