President Bola Tinubu made the controversial decision to dismiss five ministers, including Abdullahi Gwarzo, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development.

This move has sparked debate, particularly due to Gwarzo's vocal opposition to his removal. Gwarzo, who was informed of his dismissal prior to the public announcement, expressed surprise and dissatisfaction with the decision. He stated, "I wasn’t found guilty of any wrongdoing or poor performance," highlighting that his role as a minister of state meant that much of the ministry's activities were overseen by a senior minister.

The rationale provided by President Tinubu for Gwarzo's dismissal centered on the need to balance political representation in Kano North, which he described as "overloaded with political officers." However, Gwarzo questioned this justification, suggesting that the ministerial position should have been offered to the 2023 governorship candidate from Kano Central, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, unless he declined.
