Ex-Nottingham Forest Star Faces 4-Year Prison Sentence for Illegal Filming of Sexual Content

Former Nottingham Forest star, Hwang Ui-jo, is facing a potential four-year prison sentence after admitting to illegally filming sexual encounters without the consent of his partners.

The South Korean international footballer, who now plays for Turkish club Alanyaspor, was charged with recording these encounters on four occasions between June and September 2022.

The scandal came to light when Hwang's sister-in-law posted the explicit videos on social media as an act of revenge, leading to her own three-year prison sentence for blackmail.

During his court appearance in Seoul, Hwang expressed remorse, stating, "I sincerely apologise to the victims who have been affected by my actions, and I am deeply sorry for the disappointment I have caused to all those who have cared and supported me."

Despite his apology, prosecutors remain skeptical of his sincerity, citing his initial denials of the charges. They have requested a four-year jail term, arguing that Hwang's actions inflicted "irreparable damage" on the victims.

Hwang has been suspended from the South Korean national team since November 2023, following the allegations. His sentencing is scheduled for December 18, 2024.
