The Action People's Party (APP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was targeted by a dynamite explosion in the early hours of Monday.
The blast, which occurred around 1am, caused damages to the building, shattering windows, destroying doors, and wreaking havoc on other property within the premises.
An anonymous official from the APP described the incident as politically motivated, attributing it to the party's rapid growth and increasing influence in the state.
"This is politically-motivated and there is no two ways about it.
They know that the APP is a fast-growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits," the official stated.
The attack comes amidst swirling rumors that the current State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is considering a move to the APP along with his supporters.
This potential shift in political allegiance has added fuel to the already tense political atmosphere in Rivers State.
Despite the gravity of the situation, Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the state police command, mentioned that she was not yet aware of the incident.
This raises concerns about the responsiveness and awareness of local law enforcement in handling such critical events.
