Colin Gray, the father of 14-year-old Colt Gray who is accused of killing four people at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, has requested protection from a judge due to an "incalculable number of threats" he has received while in jail.
Colin Gray is currently held without bail on charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter, and cruelty to children, stemming from allegations that he allowed his son access to the weapon used in the tragic incident.

In a court filing, Gray's attorneys, Jimmy Berry and Brian Hobbs, emphasized the severity of the threats against their client, stating that social media has exacerbated the situation by spreading information that has led to calls for harm and even death.
They argued that the collective anger and desire for retribution from the public are likely mirrored by the inmates in Barrow County Detention Center, making it unsafe for Gray to remain in the general population.
The defense lawyers highlighted the widespread impact of the shooting on the community, noting that "so many lives in the community of Barrow County have been touched in unfathomable ways." They warned that it would be reckless to assume there are no inmates who wish to harm Gray, given the emotional toll the event has taken on the local populace.
Colin Gray was arrested the day after the shooting, which occurred on September 4th, 2024. His son, Colt Gray, faces four counts of felony murder. The FBI had previously interviewed Colt in 2023 regarding online threats and photos of guns, referring the case to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
The Barrow County Sheriff's Office has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.
