Favour Ofili, born on December 31, 2002, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria, has been a prominent figure in track and field since 2018. She made history as the first Nigerian woman to break the 22-second barrier in the 200m race.
At just 21 years old, Ofili has already amassed an impressive list of achievements, including a silver medal in the 200 meters at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and multiple medals at the African Games and World Athletics U20 Championships.
Despite not medaling in this event, Ofili's performance reignited Nigeria's hopes for future successes in athletics.
Her journey to the final saw her qualify with a season's best of 22.05 seconds, finishing behind Julien Alfred in the heats.
Gabby Thomas, a Harvard graduate with a degree in neurobiology and global health, celebrated her victory with tears of joy, draped in the U.S. flag.
This win adds to her bronze medal from the Tokyo Olympics, solidifying her status as one of the top sprinters in the world.
