Federal Capital Territory (FCT), residents are grappling with unprecedented hardship due to soaring transport fares, a direct consequence of critical fuel scarcity.
This crisis has severely restricted mobility, disrupting both personal lives and business activities. Many residents have voiced their grievances, highlighting the dire impact on their daily routines. Mrs. Rebecca Solomon, a civil
Notservant, appealed to the Federal Government to fulfill its promise of providing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for commuters. She stated, "We have been waiting and hoping on the buses promised to us by the Federal Government but we are yet to see the buses."
The escalating transportation costs have particularly affected civil servants, students, and traders. Mr. Godson Edache, a nurse, explained how the rising cost of necessities is biting hard on residents: "Every day I struggle to afford transportation to and from work because the cost of transportation keeps changing every day."
Healthcare services have also been impacted, as fewer patients can afford medical treatment. Edache noted, "Even at the clinic where I work, we no longer experience heavy influx of customers as we used to because the cost of drugs had also increased and people cannot afford treatment."
Traders like Miss Abiba Sule, who operate mobile businesses, are finding it increasingly difficult to sustain their livelihoods. Sule lamented, "These days, the business is very slow, the cost of the items have increased, transportation has increased and people are complaining of no money." Students are not spared from this crisis either.
Agnes Goja, a student, shared her plight: "I live with an aunt who is a petty trader and has three children. My aunt used to give me transportation fares to school before but not anymore." The situation has led to widespread desperation among residents, who are urgently appealing for government intervention. The provision of CNG buses, which were promised to alleviate transportation woes, is seen as a crucial step in mitigating the crisis.
