Federal High Court to Resume Sessions After Annual Vacation

The Federal High Court (FHC) is set to resume its activities on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, following its annual vacation. The vacation, which began on July 23, was initially scheduled to end on September 13.

However, due to a public holiday declared by the Federal Government to celebrate Eid-ul-Maulud, the resumption of normal court sittings was postponed from Monday, September 16, to the following day.

Dr. Catherine Oby-Christopher, the FHC Assistant Director of Information/ICT, had earlier announced the commencement of the court’s annual vacation in a statement released on July 11. The Chief Judge, Justice John Tsoho, emphasized that the vacation was in accordance with the provisions of Order 46, Rule 4 (d) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules 2019.

He stated, "The vacation will commence from July 23 to Sept. 13, 2024. Normal court sitting will resume on 16th September, 2024. This is in order for judges to enjoy their well-deserved rest and to prepare for the tasks and activities of the New Legal year."

During the vacation period, the litigating public was advised to approach the Abuja, Lagos, and Port-Harcourt divisions of the court for matters of extreme urgency. Judges appointed as vacation judges included Justice Emeka Nwite and Justice Peter Lifu for the Abuja division, Justice Akintayo Aluko and Justice Isaac Dipeolu for the Lagos division, and Justice A. T. Mohammed and Justice P. M. Ayua for the Port-Harcourt division.
